To be fair, I wouldn't have gotten this at all if it wasn't for the fact that half my friends have been software testers at one point or another over the last 10 years....
I find this to be a fairly uniform (ahem) feature of all quizzes, especially geek quizzes -- they all test for a pretty specific definition or concept of what it means to be that thing, geeks who specialize in Jordan's Wheel of Time can't be expected to have quite the same knowledge as Everquest geeks or programming geeks. You can expect some overlap, but you can't really guarantee much. We contain multitudes.
For sure- I remember there was a geek test I took that had me ranking much higher than a lot of people I would consider to be geekier than myself, but it was mostly because the test catered to the particular type of geek that I am, where others were less likely to end up ranking similarly because they're into different things, even if I would call those things more geeky- there is lot of variety in the geek spectrum. Wil Wheaton actually talked about that in his interview with "Sequential Tart" that he put on his blog the other day, he was quite eloquent about it.
You're just not this variety of geek :) I get this only by being related to this variety of geek (like Morgan). Duncan will get this, and probably also get why you don't and will deny the fact that this proves you're not a geek, sorry ;) It's really a software industry in-joke if anything, but a good one. As tests go, like most geek tests it really doesn't prove or disprove anything other than what you or people you know do for a living.
You are totally a crafts geek, admit that much to yourself :) I would also probably have to call you a trivia geek, but I could be blowing that out of proportion ;)
I am a crafts geek. And a trivia geek, albeit only with certain types of trivia. I'm something of a food geek (witness my large-and-still-growing collection of varied cookbooks - maybe I'm just a cookbook geek?). And I'm definitely a grammar geek.
Geez, I could go on all day.
I am the kind of person who gets that binary joke, though - "there are 10 kinds of people in the world; those that understand binary and those that don't." Love that.
We have someone at work with that t-shirt, and I was staring at it during a meeting once when I couldn't see the part where it says, "binary" trying to figure it out. I hope she didn't take it the wrong way.
I'm still impressed with myself for figuring out the "Do programmers get Halloween and Christmas confused?" joke I heard back in high school, even if I don't grok it as easily these days. I probably need more sleep.
From someone on my friends list that I found a while back- she said she's okay with people taking it as long as they give her credit- she's "ingole" :)
