I don't know why I am awake, and why this particularly bugs me, but remember the link thing about the word "Jew" in Google- well, I just tried it again for laughs (I saw the posts about it again and thought of trying it again) and guess what- the bad people must have launched another bomb... For anyone listening, I think it's time to pull out the REALLY BIG GUNS- Hey MSofties- Let's get on this one, OK? How can we come up with a more massive permanent positive-bomb solution? I know there are some programmers out there- come on people, let's think. Haven't those poor folks suffered enough already? There's got to be a nice high tech geek way to take care of this. There's just gotta... See this post of mine if you're confused:

Googlebombs are for neo-nazis apparently, let's change that!

What's worse, some anti-semitic bastards have bought ad space on Google if you search for "jew".

I wonder how much morally just ad space costs on Google.

Well that's an idea! Let's try looking into it! Damn good idea! I am sure there are lots of ways we in the geek community could buy ad space for enough good organizations to push those assholes down to the BOTTOM of the list!

Yep, it's worth a shot. Again, Microsoft would be a great help. I even thought Google had rules in effect against bombing, so I'm surprised they're putting up with this.

By the way, new icon is for you.

Thanks! Yoink!

I might actually pay the extra cash to get more icons, though I guess I could stand to take a couple out that I don't seem to be using as much... But more likely I'm going to pay up because I got a few recently I so want to use, but I can't decide who to cut...

Assuming I have the time and energy....

...I plan on posting about this again this afternoon/evening, this time really requesting my friends (many of whom should be sympathetic to this) to post as well. If it's ok, I'll also direct them to your other post about it this morning?

By the by, NPR's Morning Edition is, coincidently, running a short series on search engines this week. They're talking about Google tomorrow. If this bomb isn't mentioned (as it hasn't been anywhere in the major media that I've seen/heard), I plan to write a letter. Which may very well get read on the air. I'd encourage everyone else to listen (if you can) and do the same.

sigh gotta go to class now...

I think you should write them regardless- greyaenigma told me that Google DOES have a policy against the bombs which they are obviously failing to enforce, and I'd be curious as to why. Since you also happen to be jewish, and very good at articulating yourself, it might well get their attention and go to get them to step up and correct this! If I write something it'll probably be angry, and since I am not even a jew I'd bet they'd just say I was having some white middle class PC guilt attack or something...

I definitely think the post from this morning (the more coherent one with all the links) would be the better one to link to. It might be better if you write one of your own after the show that talks about whatever NPR said! I am sure you're going to get some good info about it that might make more sense than what I said. :)

Actually, I think "I'm not an X, but I think this treatment of X's is disgusting" letters tend to be much more effective. You should still write.

I was planning on waiting to see what they say because part of what was covered today was early websearch spamming, so I'm waiting to see if they deal with that vis-a-vis Google at all first. If you can't get it there (I see no reason the CBC would carry it), you can check the NPR site tomorrow and listen.

I will try- but in the toddler world there are no guarantees :)

And you have a point- I will see if I can curb my word anger long enough to get out something polite :)

I just re-read what G said, and it was actually that he was pretty sure they did and was surprised- If I were Google, I'd have a policy, but I think that would mean they'd have to admit they were vulnerable... I am mostly waiting for the Softies to see this and weigh in on that one- they probably know more about the tech side and what Google can and can't do to speak to this aspect...
