My son amazes me sometimes. Picked him up from kindergarten just a smidge later than usual, and hurried our way over to the day care on account of the heavy rain. Once inside he was impatient to get downstairs and change from his wet boots to his dry indoor shoes. He spelled out the EXIT sign as we went down the stairs, where he did the shoe change nearly flawlessly, now that he's finally learned to use his index finger like a shoe horn. That wasn't the amazing part. After he was done, he picked up his boots. He didn't put them down one next to the other, no, not at all. He lined them up perfectly with the boots of the little girl who has the cubby next to his, in the exact mirrored way to the way hers had flopped onto the floor. One boot up, the other laying just so, just after the heal of the upright boot. Looking at them from above, the flawless pattern he'd created was easy to see. I left it just the way it was, but somehow I doubt anyone but me would see it, and get it.
My kid is really bizarre, and it gives me deep deep joy.
