[livejournal.com profile] uniquecrash5 and I were sitting around the other weekend realizing how bad it is that we snoozed on having a yard sale over the summer, when he suddenly gets that look in his eye that says the hamster wheel in his head had just squeaked into violent action.. "WHY NOT have a yard sale on the Saturday of Oktoberfest", he proclaimed. I wasn't so sure at first, but then I started to see his logic. HELLO, it's the beginning of the school year and we live in a college town, right in the middle part near lots of the students. The rest of them will be coming up here to drink beer. We're just a couple scant blocks from the festivities, so a couple carefully placed, carefully worded signs might get us quite a little turn-out. I've got lots of housewares and CD's for those little students to snap up, in addition to a couple pieces of furniture that might even make townies slow down to ponder, so why the hell not. We really need to get rid of some stuff, and worse comes to worst, we've wasted the better part of a day sitting just outside the house, when likely all we would've done otherwise is sit inside it...

There will likely be crowds, possibly even rowdy people, so it occurred to us to wonder if anyone wants to come help and be bouncers sell some things so that there's more than just us 2 and the little helper. It's still going to be low key (or I will happily shut it down myself, no patience for rowdy yard sales), not likely an early start time since I doubt the drunks will be rolling out early, especially not for furniture and coffee mugs. Let me know if you're interested, and we can settle on a plan of attack. I have a car and can assist anyone who wants to bring stuff over, but has no way to transport it. Anyone interested? Anyone interested in just coming over and watching the carnage?

And if I haven't said it before to people, if you need stuff and are local, I'm trying to get rid of stuff.. I've promised the kid stuffs to trinshadow, but I also have lots of other bits and things and dressers and I am always happy to give them away to friends before I go to the trouble of trying to sell them for money at a yard sale. Just come visit, and bring a big car.

That is quite a brilliant notion. One of our neighbors did the same thing this past weekend. The Greek Festival was going on at St. Demetrius, which is right down the street from us, and it draws huge crowds. Our neighbor who had the yard sale got amazing foot traffic.

Sadly no... In the market for one if we decide to stay, actually, since we have more than a small interest in ditching our current sofa for something that will sleep more than one.

I do have a couple nice antique things though, if you're really interested in making the trip for free stuff!! I should take photos just to lure you.. hehehehehehehe...... *evil grins*

You could be evil. Even if I can't make the trip, I can moan about missed opportunities... one of my favorite pastimes!

I think I might be down for some carnage-watching and general bouncing. Is this a wet-within-reason event?

I'm kinda open about the time. I don't see a lot of people coming through with any seriousness before noon. And by all means, wet within reason is fine with me! :)

Sorry it took me so long to respond, I've been busy-fied and confuzzled in the head. ;)

Heh. So.. The whole yard sale part of the plan is sorta turning into an attempt to organize things for photos to plan on Craig's listing it instead. We might take a box of CD's down to Oktoberfest and see if we get people to buy them, so there might still be some carnage to watch, but probably not the hard core carnage of an actual yard sale. Still up for company though if you were planning on being in town for the fest! ;)
