Sometimes breakage is the mother of fine purchases...

The oldest TV I have, and the most reliable, seems to be having another episode of random non-working. Picture is fine, sound is gone. Whatever. There's sound outputs in the back, and we needed a new set of computer speakers anyway. A trip to a used bits store and a Radio Shack later and we have the old computer speakers hooked to the old TV, and a nice "new" set of refurbished speakers, including a sub-woofer, hooked up to ye olde box.. I had no idea how much bass I've been missing.. WOOF WOOF!! I really hope the neighbours don't grow to hate me, if they don't already hate me..

The only annoying part now is not being able to mute the TV, or change the volume without standing on my tip toes, but whatever. I don't have to be down a TV! Yes, we're media addicts, get over it.

Edit- Also, why did no one ever hold me down and feed me Death Cab For Cutie before?

Re Death Cab -- probably because we all assumed you'd heard it. Must be a Seattle thing.

Also, if you like them, check out the lead singer's side project Postal Service.

OMG Death Cab for Cuties has replaced every desire in my life. Except pot... and... orgasms and candy. But otherwise, they are my MOST FAVORITESTEST band EVAH. Totally.

We were actually thnking of getting a smaller TV, really. Even so: calculate & tempt away!

Of course we still owe you for the shipping for the rockin' monitor you sent us.

You should totally let her have it then.. We've got other TV's, and the one I was writing about still totally works except for the sound, so she should get it. We can live happily for quite a while until another TV finds us, or we find it..

I'd been hearing people rave about DCFC for years, and I finally heard one of their songs... and was non-plussed.

That describes the exact way I felt about Simple Minds through the 80's.. And come to think of it, it also counts for U2. My taste is funny that way too. ;)

I know I couldn't avoid hearing Simple Minds and U2 in the 80s, so that's a little different for me.

yeah, I didn't mean to imply I hadn't heard them then.. You couldn't leave the house without hearing them, so that wasn't the thing- I knew folks who share a lot of my taste who were always telling me I HAD TO own certain albums, like the U2's Joshua Tree for example. It had some very good songs on it, for sure, but I would get very tired of it after a while. I just never felt that big warm fuzzy that so many people feel for U2. I respect them enough, but their music is just not my music. That's more what I was getting at.

I am curious, do you like Radiohead?

Yeah, there was lots of stuff from the 80s that I didn't like until later -- I hated Genesis for a while, and I didn't get Joshua Tree until a few years ago. I was still always a fan of the early U2, but I got turned off for a while by their new style.

The other day I realized I have OK Computer on my iPod, and I 've hardly ever listened to it, so I put it on. I don't even remember anything about it except the Stephen Hawking voice at the end. One the other hand, I love Creep, which is a very different thing. (And which I heard later that day, oddly.)

What Bubbles said - and sometimes folks are just uninterested in hearing new things. I can send you a list of coolio stuff if ya want. :)

What DCfC album(s) have you heard so far?

I don't have any of the albums, so just whatever Pandora sees fit to feed me. I don't think I've disliked any of the tunes I've heard though, and am currently trying to narrow down which album I am going to buy first.. Any suggestions? I was thinking the second, or one of the more recent ones..

Oh, and as for lists- I am always hip to hearing what my friends are listening to, but I am also terribly cheap so don't count on me to rush out and buy things! :) I will happily punch just about anything into Pandora though, so feel free to list away..
