How important is the bathroom to you?

I'm thinking about taking a lovely place with one big draw back, which is of course my famous mistake.

I might be able to make it seem nicer to myself with a shit-load of cosmetic foolery. A good trip to Ikea, a coat of paint, and a cute little rug will cure a lot of what's wrong here, but it won't cure the tub. The tub is kinda scary, definitely short, and set into one of those eased roof areas, so I doubt Crash is ever going to enjoy showers the way he usually does. The toilet is also rusty and gross looking, but a new seat, plus keeping the seat down would likely hide a bunch of that. I rarely take baths anymore, so with a good shower curtain I could ignore that bathroom pretty well for a long long time.

And the kitchen is fucking adorable- I've got three words for you decorating biatches out there- WOODEN BEAM CEILING!!

*does the sexy kitchen dance*

But yeah, doing my best to not jump too fast, questions must be answered, as it's on the high end of our pay scale...

Mmm. I have lived with a crappy bathroom for too many years now. I would definitely keep looking, if it were me.

The bathroom is very important to me, but I would ask is it merely inconvenient or unusable?
If it is the former and the rest of the house is pleasant I'd go for it.

A little from both category- They are just scary old, which in the toilet's case is ignorable. The tub is a little harder to ignore, but I am famous for being a little neurotic about that kind of thing. The kid likely won't care, and we both shower these days more than anything else, so I am still not sure it matters. It might have us inspired to water by taking shorter showers, and to save money and buy a house faster..

I could live with a lousy bathroom (I do) - but can you ask about upgrading the toilet/bathtub at some point?

That's another problem, I've already asked about updating the carpet, which also sucks, but it something I could learn to ignore with time and attitude adjustment and lots of area rugs... Lots and lots of area rugs :P Not sure we are dealing with a caring landlord, which can be both a burden and a blessing. We'll see what they say, but I am doubtful, I've already offered to put some love into the place myself, since I'm not too mechanically challenged. Maybe if they are willing to let me mess with the floors, they'd be willing to discuss that too.

Wooden Beam Ceiling?

How old? How old? How old?

HOW OLD?

Really not sure, but old... Definitely old. It's got character, and I am smitten with it, a dangerous combination. I will ask them how old, if they EVER fucking call :P

This is starting to sound like those real estate ads you see where "Old World Charm" translates into "we haven't remodeled this place in 50 years"

It's up to you hon, but if it were me, I'd probably pass; the bathroom is pretty damn important, especially if you only have one bathroom.

*DING* You win the prize!! It screams that out loud and then some. But you know me, and how I love that Old World Charm :) I could cover a lot of the renovation issues with more cosmetic foolery, and even love some of the less renovated aspects, like the kitchen cabinets! They are laughably old, but also dead solid, with lots of storage.

The bathroom is pretty important to me too, but sadly a lot of the bathrooms I am seeing everywhere I am looking all kinda suck- between being too small, no cabinet space, tiny tub, no tub, you name it. Also very few places with second bathrooms *sigh*. This is the point which will likely only be fixed by my being able to get a job again..

I would take butt-old and funky over any schlocky new construction, regardless of bathroom size.

One of my Smif proffies had the awesomest place way up in seriously rural Mass, a totally Lovecraftian neighborhood but the house was an 18th century inn, in the middle of a Cranberry bog.

Full of books.

The awesomest place.

Size isn't the issue so much as sharing ;) Potty training has turned toilet sharing into an art form around here, so wanting a second toilet was high on my list of NEEDS. It's turning out to come with quite a price tag, and I can survive with one though, so I am tempted to go with my gut, which is like yours... I'd much rather live in someplace cool than have a couple extra feet, and be thickly surrounded by other buildings on all sides.

Ya, I imagine the kinder make the whole decision a little more involved.

Bathroom is very important to me. I always want my house to have at least one.

Also, be sure to check behind the fridge for explosives.
