Awesome day.. CHEESE WEASEL!
Apr. 3rd, 2006 01:40 pmOh m'gosh that was probably the bestest cheese weasel celebration we've ever hosted. Not everyone we were hoping would show managed to do so, but considering the size of this house, it was probably good that they didn't. It managed to stay just the right size, while people came and went.. We had CHEESE of course, plus veggies, muffins, and not enough crackers. I think we understocked those cautiously vs. last year's overkill when we ran out of cheese weeks and months before we ran out of boxes of crackers. This year I am having to think of interesting ways to use left over cheese! YAY for cheese omlettes! (and boo for whoever wrote the semagic spell checker! :P)
Weaselling started closer to 2 when B and L (from the parenting class I mentioned the other week) came over. They brought some very fancy cheese that B's husband had picked up and sent along with her, which we must remember to thank him for as those were the most memorable. Especially yummy was a lump of goat cheese with a rather significant mold coating that scared a lot of people off but was seriously yummy, and a delicious hard cheddar made with Guinness!
L seemed to really enjoy exploring our house. He and K had some fun trying again to share toys. K didn't go destructo at all, but did have some moments of extreme anxiety as toy conflicts either resolved or refused to do so. Eventually K tried to keep control of the train set, letting L take out all his trucks and play parking garage in the ball tent. A whole bunch of people arrived in a wave after that, including
invariel,
koogrr, M (who doesn't do the LJ thang) and his son J, and P (who also doesn't do the LJ thang) and her son Q who brought along some Power Rangers on DVD- Wow has that show changed, and a shame how more budget doesn't actually help. The kids enjoyed the fast action and zoomy effects, and the adults enjoyed chuckling at the Anubis lookin' guy in the rubber suit. I think
in_the_annex showed up somewhere during that, possibly just before L and B left. Sooner than later P and Q left, followed closely by
in_the_annex who had much gaming to do.
tornattheelbo and Aaron arrived just before M and J had to go home, and just a little while before M, K (yet more non-LJ using folks) and their daughter M arrived. M was fascinated by my fish tanks and had many questions for me before she would talk to anyone else at the party, it was very cute.
K was still going pretty strong when Aaron and M arrived, but after a while of everyone bouncing on the furniture, his second and third winds started to turn into being overstimulated. He managed to keep it together for most of the rest of the time M was there, but soon after she left he began ignoring Aaron, wanted a bath and pyjamas, and then to be put to bed. He didn't fall asleep until about an hour after Aaron and
tornattheelbo left, and the noises became more consistently quiet. He must've had a really good time because he was exhausted, and slept in until 9 when we finally made him get up.
And we also had a really wonderful time, thanks especially to all the wonderful folks who came and brought awesome cheese, many of whom were nice enough to leave with a bag or more full of books and CD's and even some computer bits we don't need anymore! Yay for house-cooling!! I must have at least one more of these parties before we leave, hopefully with more of the crowd that didn't make it this time.
It was late late late when I thought of trying to call the west coast to see how their cheese weasel was going, and then I realized I had no idea when and where it was being held, and computers were being monopolized by gamers long after I still had the will and energy to check. I thought cheesy thoughts about all my friends who might be eating cheese together, and I eagerly await updates from some of them about how it went. Happy CHEESE WEASEL DAY to ALL!! :)
