hippybngstockng: (chocolate mug)

Woke up having the same kinda thoughts as a few of the people who responded to my silly mug noodling last night. I decided to try an experiment. I've put the pretty shiny mug into the group of mugs I actually use, even though it can't go in the microwave. I am going to make a point of trying to use it nearly every day for a week, and see if I can manage to desensitize myself to it. I was tempted to even go a step further and do as [livejournal.com profile] spoomeister suggested, and let K use it, but he still throws cups, sometimes at the TV, and while it might take care of the mug problem, it would raise other issues.. Gravity still hates me though, so I figure the risk of breakage is almost the same with me using it, and while the anger is still there, I would not give in to the smashy impulses so easily.

I also told Crash the story of the gifting of the mug for the first time, which might be the first time I ever told the story to anyone, and that also lessened the pinch it causes ever so slightly. It's still there, but maybe in a week it'll seem silly to me, and I'll be over it. If not, I am sure I can think of a bunch of my friends who would simply love this cup. I would just have to decide who I could give it to who is the least likely person to have me over for coffee, but would still appreciate the mug as much as I do.

Finally, behind here is a picture of it..

Crash says he's always found the mug a tad creepy, which I can understand, but I have quite a fondness for it- My grandmother was a doll collector, and asshat knew this, and it was part of why he got it for me.

Hippy, I have to totally agree with Crash here, that cup creeps me out.

But then, I also cannot watch anything like Thunderbirds because marionettes give me nightmares for a month and I never wanted any dolls as a child for much the same reason.

I think your idea of desensitization is a good one though.

I was never that fond of dolls either, I was a stuffed animal kid! My mom even commented on it when I was tiny, and I can remember it vividly- "She cradles the stuffed animals like they're babies, but she carries her dolls by their necks!" LOL

When she asked me if she should get rid of it originally, I said I kind of thought so 'cause it's always sorta freaked me out.
