Time FLYS when you are having _scum_...
Mar. 16th, 2004 02:55 pmBefore I even put up the post about the Flylady my beautiful and understanding if sometimes clueless husband had agreed to receive the mails at the same time, so even if he wasn't specifically helping me with the stuff she would harass, I mean prompt me to do, he would at least know what they were and not to make anything worse.
Then the lovely
neeuqdrazil was kind enough to offer herself as a bitch buddy and try signing up again herself.
I resolved to take a breath and remember that she's not my mother, in fact if we want to get technical about it, she's really just an automated list to which I belong, like the "heads up" things we got when I used to work at AT&T about F&%k all... I realized reading a lot of stuff in the replies both to my post and another post that ironically popped up about it that some of it may well not apply to me- I have clutter, sure, but we did just move in here so it's the kind of clutter that results from things not really having found their "home" yet.
So I asked UC5 to grab some car wax (yes, she did say car wax) on the way home so I could shine the sink. It was pretty clean already since I had done the process weeks before, and I'd been keeping it up so I was just going to shine it and be done with it.
Well, my sink is probably as old as I am, and it has a "surface" in the bottom which is already losing it's surface-ness in places, and there are deep scratches and even a chip, and it's got the texture of a piece of chalk in places so it absorbs ANYTHING that comes in contact with it. I took one look at it in the blaring light of the kitchen and pulled out the bleach again. I decided to go one step further than the Fly herself and I followed my scrubbing with bleach gel for those spots that needed a little extra coaxing, and now I am waiting for coat #3 of wax to dry... I had to rinse after #2 though and I can see how the sealing effect of the wax will probably go a long way to keeping the sink cleaner with consistent wipe-outs, I wish I had gotten the wax the first time I bleached it!
I haven't even gotten into the bathroom yet and at this point I likely won't, luckily I'd been creeping around in there for the past couple weeks, so my counters are already shiny and there isn't actually much in there we don't currently use. I might take a look inside the linen closet that is kind of the extension of the bathroom and see if there's anything in there that actually belongs in storage and then move on.
My computer desk got cleaned a couple weeks ago as well when I turned to UC5 one night and told him, "You know, you'd look a lot sexier playing Gunbound if that desk was clean!" which allowed us to both have a good laugh about our consistent inability to keep flat surfaces clear... Lately we've been better so all I had to do was remove a couple obviously out of place bits and again, except for the massive pile of laundry I am always constantly chipping away at, once I get that last coat of wax off the sink and the clean up the fall out from all that then I guess I would be done.
Well, except that the laundry will always keep going and going and going all day into the next... I just wish we could all go naked all the time so nothing would ever get dirty, but it's cold here, so that's really just right out of the question.
Speaking of which, I will NOT be pressured on the shoes thing. NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT and NOT.
Look, Flylady, you come to Canada and I'll walk you around my neighborhood a couple times and then invite you into my house and show you the trail you would leave from my door into my kitchen when you go to see how shiny my fucking sink is. I will go buy some laces and make pretty macrame all over my bare feet, but I will NOT wear my shoes in my house. MAYBE I will try to add a pair of "house" shoes into my attire that will stay in the house, but the problem there is that I always forget at some point and leave the house and then BAM before you know it the special shoes track dirt all over just like any other shoes I own, so I think I am going to stick to my guns on this one. Trust me, getting dressed AND combing my hair is miracle enough, my brain will make the connection without the frigging shoes. Plus, most of my shoes are slip-on so bite me. Didn't I mention I was combative? Well I am...
So the shoes is the main thing that has me grumpy, but otherwise I am doing pretty well. I also think I might mail her about something I've discovered which I think I am just going to break into a different post because I am sure most people have gotten bored and have moved on by now... Otherwise, stay tuned for "Pimpin' the PVA"

Date: 2004-03-17 05:33 am (UTC)I've never lived in the Eastern part of WA- only passed through. I hear nice enough stuff about Spokane, but you know they get snow there ;) though I hear they might have a few more snow plows so you'll probably still be okay :)
We have a baby cthulhu on our dash board :)

Date: 2004-03-17 05:38 am (UTC)Now, if I were a man who had to wear dress shirts every day I might do the "X shirts for X" deal though because then you also get the ironing in that deal, IMHO that seems worth the dough- I was SO glad when it turned out J didn't have to wear dress shirts every day, we frigging HATE ironing, and you know I would have ended up doing it more often than I would have been okay with. But yah, laundry sucks... If they can make a shirt that lets wine and coffee roll off like it's nothing, why can't they make one that does that with sweat???

Date: 2004-03-16 05:30 pm (UTC)But, i agree - i won't wear shoes in the house. We have a baby - who will eat anything he finds on the floor. i don't want what shoes track in to be in his tummy!!
