Getting ready to drive to my mom's again.
She needs me to come help her for a few days while she has a cast on her dominant hand from surgery. It's an arthritis thing. So I get to take care of my mom who is just about the worst patient you can have. I will also have my son and my dog, hurray! I am bringing lots of movies for K to watch, I don't care what anyone says...
The upshot of this may be that Mom might be giving me her car to take home. You see if we don't import our car officially ASAP it will be in Canada illegally. We have a little under a month to resolve the issue.
Long story short, there are problems with that, and the math is in everyone's favor (well, except for my mom's of course) if she trades cars with me, fixes and sells my car and gets a new one. We were planning on doing this "sometime soon" but if we do it now it saves UC5 and I about $550 (and likely much more).
UC5 said he wasn't so hot on the idea of taking more stuff from my mom but there are some things I just look at logically. I feel bad though because it was my idea, sort of. It was also something my mom and I discussed about 10 years ago (way before I met UC5) and then again about 4 years ago when we got our current car. It's a good thing for us because though it is a bit smaller than our current car it's still a 4 door, and it has a hatchback like I always prefer, and it's got MUCH better gas mileage than our car.
Since I've been barely managing to fill my tank with $40 every time I go, and that's if there's a good price, I am reeeeeeeeeeeeally wanting this change anyway, regardless of whether it's my mom. I can see where he's coming from though since we still owe her cash, and while she's being totally patient about it (in fact she never brings it up unless I am talking about it) and was planning on offering us the car anyway there is a degree to which you always fear she will use it against you at a later date. I asked her to make a promise that if she finds herself regretting her new car purchase in any way that it's not going to come back to me, and she says it will not, regardless of whether I doom her to years of tolerating some awful car... We'll see...
So NEW CAR! Woo HOO! It's a Volkswagen, and it's in good shape and suits our needs, and it has a working radio which I haven't had in almost 2 years. It's a pleasant enough green, and it even has a sun roof! I prefer Hondas but I will happily settle for a VW any time, though my dream VW would be a beetle an OLD beetle with an iridescent paint job. I've seen one, it was just about the prettiest thing you've ever seen, but the paint job alone costs $10,000 and if you scratch it, EACH FIX is $1000 so that of course is a "winning lotto" plan, since it could never be a day to day car- I am curious whether you could put a kid seat in one :) I'm not sure the kids feet wouldn't be up around their neck.
I'm very scared about trying to re-enter Canada with my car, so I hope we can find my mom a car while I am there, but if not I am going to try to bring the beast in one more time... I loath the idea of being turned back- it's a long way back to Ohio. I also have to baby-sit on Monday.
Speaking of baby-sitting: K and I had his little friend M over to the house today. She 10 days older and is super verbal, a mimic of the highest order. Every phrase that comes out of my mouth gets echoed back to me in the exact same inflection but in a toddler voice :) A big difference from what I am used to with K. He often responds with AHYayayayayayaya. I can ask her questions and get actual answers! I know it's a girl thing and that soon K will be talking for real and I will wish he never learned how, but somehow I think I will savor it a little longer than some folks because of how long I've gone without. I would like to be able to ask him what he's thinking. M can tell me when I ask and it's very cool. I can see K use his imagination, but he never talks about it like M does, and that definitely adds a level to it...
But we all had a great time, and K actually ate some fruit! UC5 and K are taking M home right now which is why I've had the time to ramble, but now I should get to packing.
So I won't be around tomorrow and for a few days since there's no way I'd do LJ on my mom's computer... I know other people's mom's read their journals, I think that's very brave, but I can't do it.
